A Migrant

During the Republic of China period, the Qianzhou area in Guanzhong was in a state of turmoil, with black and evil forces preying on the people and running rampant. In order to change the long-suffering situation of ravaging and oppression, the miracle doctor Li Daoan and the aspirant Su Qingyun want to unite the common people to rise up against them, but they can't come up with an effective solution.

The film is based on the real life story of a twenty-year-old boy. The main character comes from Russia to Germany with his parents, Russian Germans. In the cycle of Berlin life, he is trying to find himself and his place in a new environment for him. A student of a German school, a part–time worker, a seller of a Russian fish shop, a statistician of the "German Opera", a petty criminal - his path runs through such a bizarre line. The multifaceted Russian Berlin with all the tragic comedy of emigrant life becomes the background of its existence. Here he meets many different people, finds his love, indulges in dashing fun with friends, the same immigrants as him, works, paints, makes plans for the future and ... by chance becomes an accomplice to murder. So the breadth of central Russia narrowed around him to the size of a prison cell in Germany.

MIGRANT SEA is a documentary about the voices, stories and realities of African migrants who have survived the harrowing journeys from their home countries to reach Europe.

Traana-Temporary Migrant is a theatre script written by Bouba Touré in 1977. The play tells a story of rural exodus, from the countryside to the city, from the city to Europe. This story of migration from the 60’s and 70’s indexes the failure of the liberation movements in Senegal and Mali to consider the postcolonial conditions for peasants after independence. The adaptation of Traana by Kàddu Yaraax and Raphaël Grisey in December 2016, is the result of a ten-day workshop with 8 actors coming from Yaraax or other suburbs of Dakar.

One of them, Adib Mardini, having managed to become a refugee in Canada, tells us about the process that changed his life.

Following the publication of an announcement on the social networks inviting all interested canadian women (actresses, dancers and lovers of cinema) to present for a casting (without specifying neither age nor physical traits), in order to play the role of a veiled woman in a short film in preparation. 11 women were interviewed and each in turn had entered a proximate place with a complex subject such as the veiled female figure and the veil. the two casting sessions don't try to understand or find answers to questions related to this subject but it will help us in our research on this topic and in the collection of data and testimonials. Everything goes through a veil, bodies and looks. After the audition, we decided to turn the rushes into a short documentary.

The film follows an annual 10-day- long walking Pilgrimage dedicated to and organized by Ukrainian labour migrants and their families. During 260 km of walk, the Pilgrims spread the word of their experiences abroad and try to reconnect with their families, estranged through the years of migration. They fight the guilt and the sense of blame for migration, and, against the evermore crumbling trust in the Ukrainian state, attempt to organize through the only existing for them institution, the Church. Τhe film speaks of the controversial rise of the Church institution in a post-soviet state, as a force preoccupied not only with the spiritual, but also with the social and the political.

They didn't expect that fixers and false promises would lead to deception and exploitation. Sadly, their story is not uncommon. Min Sook Lee continues to speak truth to power with her commitment to providing a voice to the silenced, fulfilling documentary's capacity as a powerful tool for social change.

The work documented the story of Yuli, a Hong Kong domestic worker from Indonesia. She is a novelist who won a literature award and also a journalist dedicated to writing. Between the social event that happened in June in Hong Kong, her thoughts and caring about the city are far more from what people used to imagine a narrative of a domestic worker. They are not only domestic workers but they also have other social roles, e.g. a citizen who lived in Hong Kong.

After the love of her life is killed in an air raid, Yara, a young Syrian woman, discovers she’s pregnant. Desperate to bring her child safely into the world, Yara embarks on a long journey to Europe. The route, controlled by smugglers, takes Yara and her fellow refugees on a treacherous exodus via Jordan, Egypt and Libya before finally boarding the boat of The Mute – a smuggler rumored to always come back unscathed from his trips to Lampedusa. But hope soon turns to despair, as the migrants discover the terrifying secret behind this legend: they find themselves held hostage by The Mute — who reveals his true nature. Yara must fight tooth and nail to keep herself and her unborn baby alive…

With the opening assembled in the form of an explanation to the children she had to leave behind, "Migrant Dilemma" ends feeling like an apologetic self-eulogy.

This Migrant Business shows the systems that exist that enable and exploit African migrants seeking better lives in the Middle East and Europe. The system creates a cyclic force that ensures that demand and supply will continue to feed into each other, indefinitely. This is a lucrative trade with vulnerable people as its currency.
